Gardening for beginner and experienced small space gardeners. Simple, informative and fun to read! A newsletter about growing veggies, gaining health and finding peace for Beginner and Experienced gardeners. This is the first edition! :) I'm so excited. I have 25 subscribers and it feels like 25 million! You all are on the maiden voyage so to speak! Thank you for subscribing!QUICK STORY OF HOW I GOT HERE - A Pandemic Gardener LOCKDOWN During the pandemic, like many others, I sat around the house watching YouTube videos. I can’t even remember how, or why, I happened up gardening channels because I certainly wasn’t thinking of becoming a gardener at all. A video by Roots and Refuge Farm showed up in my feed about growing lettuce in the winter. Thank goodness for YouTube and the hundreds of folks out there who take the time to make gardening content for people like me. I didn’t know how much I didn’t know. But I learned! Call it boredom, or curiosity, or whatever, but it wasn’t long before this one video turned into strings of other garden videos and I was off into the world of vegetable gardening. FIRST CROP I grew lettuce in the following Spring according to the instructions from Roots and Refuge and some others YouTube gardeners. I bought my first seeds, and a bag of potting mix at the local big box builder supply store. I learned that I didn’t need a container because I could use the bag of potting mix as my container! So I did. This was a very small project but it ignited a huge interest gardening. When I wasn’t doing things in life that NEEDED to be done, I was thinking about my small backyard and how I could grow vegetables. I had roadblocks along the way which I’ll discuss in future editions, but I was not deterred. NEW PASSION So, here I am. Four years into growing all kinds of fruits and vegetables; some for food, some out of curiosity, and some for friends. I suspect I will do this for the rest of my life as long as I am physically able; and I believe that gardening will allow me to physically be able to garden for a long time....a future newsletter coming about this topic. SHARE IN MY LEARNING I attempted to do a YouTube channel. That lasted for about a week. The only thing I learned was how much work it was to video and make content and how much time I didn’t have to do all that. But, in a short amount of time as I posted my growing garden on my social media feeds more and more folks started asking questions in my garden. I didn’t know a lot but what I learned I shared. Now, I get regular questions, and have mentored a few beginning gardeners along the way. HERE WE ARE Piecemealing information was a bit much, so I decided to start a newsletter to share the things I learn about gardening using links from others, photos, experiences, etc. … believe me, there is a LOT to learn. You might know what I share already. Just take in what you don’t know and skip over what you do. Like the saying goes… chew the meat and spit out the bones. I can’t guarantee exactly where this will end up. I’m just starting the newsletter and hopefully it will develop into a happy community of like-minded vegetable growing folks who all enjoy the peace, serenity, hard work and results of growing your own food. Thanks for coming along my newsletter journey. Hopefully it will be a nice, long enjoyable one as we touch on multiple topics related to gardening, food, and healthy ideas. Be sure to subscribe and share the link with your friends and family who might be interested. I had no idea an Okra flower was so beautiful! ** Share with your friends. FUTURE EDITIONS My goal is to be informative, not intrusive ... so I plan to have a simple format in each edition of the newsletter to start. You should be able to peruse the newsletter in a few minutes, and click only on the things that are of interest to you. This might change over time but for now there will be five sections: Topic: This is what the edition will cover. Education: Sharing what I've learned about the topic, which could include articles, links, etc. to pass along information. Application: How I use (or will use) the new information. Selection: If the topic (item) has multiple varieties, I will give the best varieties for your area or growing zone. Edification: Gardening is good for the soul, so I hope to leave you with a word of encouragement and hope. Occasionally, I will send short quick newsletter notes just because I've found out an interesting fact or just wanted to check in with you all. Afterall, this is our community of like-minded gardening friends. :) This is going to be a fun! I'm so glad you are here for the ride. THANK YOU FOR SUBSCRIBING!! May 6, 2025 This Week's Garden Gab: The Robin Whisperer Hi Reader! Full disclosure: Robin Whisperer is a bit of a stretch. Until about five years ago, I had a MAJOR bird phobia. Matter of fact, I had a phobia of anything with wings - just sent me over the edge. Gardening cured that thankfully. I still run from snakes though. 😳 In this...

March 25, 2025 This Week's Garden Gab: I Started My Seedlings Hi Reader! I'm not fond of starting seedlings inside but it must be done in order for some vegetables to show up at the right time during the summer. As I mentioned in a previous version, I started tomatoes, peppers, basil, and a few flowers. The set up is in my spare bedroom,...
