Dehydrating Mushrooms
Hi Reader!
This isn't my typical newsletter, but I decided to send out this blast because as the cost of food rises it might be helpful to someone to see some of the ways I save money on groceries.
I'm not the biggest mushroom lover. I mean, I'll through some in a soup recipe, or scramble a few in eggs, definitely like them on pizza, but would never eat a stuffed mushroom, or some of the random varieties found in the woods.
Anyway, if you are like me, when you need mushrooms, they are nowhere in your life.
So, what I started doing is catching them on sale; just the plain white ones, sometimes more a brown color.
I wash them, let them dry on a paper towel. Then slice them and put them on my dehydrator.
Once dried, place them in a mason jar and they are ready to use when I need them. It's an easy way to keep mushrooms in your life.

HOW TO DEHYDRATE
There are numerous ways to dehydrate. I found a dehydrator on Facebook Marketplace. You don't need one though ... you can use your oven. Just set it on the lowest setting, put in your mushrooms, and watch it. Find specific instructions online so you do it correctly.
If you have an Air Fryer, you might have a dehydrator setting on it.
Once they mushrooms are very dry, then let them cool, put them in a jar with a good seal and sit them on a shelf. Watch them for a week, shake the jar, look for any moisture. This is called 'Conditioning'.
If everything looks fine after a week, you are good to go. The next time you need some 'shrooms for a recipe, go grab them off your pantry shelf.
FINISHED PRODUCT
I just notice that my countertop looks like dried mushrooms. 🤔
That's all. Just wanted to share one of the money-saving projects I worked on today.
